Local start-up provides D.C. transportation plan for more than 800,000 attendees.
SANTA FE, NM — January 17, 2013 — While Washington dances into Inauguration weekend, Santa Fe’s Sparrowhawk will be a driving force behind the scenes. Caroline and James Campbell, Senior Operations Advisors for the Presidential Inaugural Committee’s transportation teams, are gearing up for some major movement behind the scenes, planning transportation for the over 800,000 expected attendees heading to Washington, D.C. for Inauguration festivities.
Inaugural weekend begins on January 19 with The Kids’ Inaugural Concert hosted by First Lady Michelle Obama and Dr. Jill Biden. The celebration continues through Monday with the Inaugural
Parade, ending with the National Prayer Service on Tuesday, January 22.
The job might seem daunting for some, but mega-event management is all in a day’s work for Caroline and Jim.
The Sparrowhawk Team has provided mega-event services around the world, including multiple Olympics, Super Bowls, Democratic National Conventions, and the Disaster Response Effort following Hurricane Sandy.
Most recently, Sparrowhawk provided transportation and logistics for the 2012 Olympic Games in London.
“There are a lot of complexities to our work, but we’re fortunate to have some of the best people in the business working with us,” says Jim of their core team, who hail from four continents.
Since January 1, the Sparrowhawk team has been in Washington, D.C, working with members of the Inauguration Committee, the Department of Transportation, Capitol Police, and the Secret Service to ensure that attendees and guests, including the Tuskegee Airmen, will be able to move from event to event as smoothly and safely as possible. Challenging? Yes. “But our passion for our work, and our love for our family and our community in Santa Fe keep us clocking the hours to pull it all together,” explains Caroline, who serves as CEO. “I founded Sparrowhawk in order to realize some lofty ideals: to bring new innovations to our industry, to create opportunities for our co-workers, and to establish a legacy of project excellence – all while keeping our roots in New Mexico.”
Sparrowhawk is committed to giving back to the communities which it conducts business. As part of its participation in the Inaugural events, Sparrowhawk is encouraging New Mexicans to participate in the National Day of Service on Saturday, January 19.
